Every
Investigator wants to look his best when out in the thick of things. Whether
it’s bashing one’s way through hordes of Azathoth cultists, or facing-off
against the Formless Spawn of Tsathoggua, one never wants to appear
badly-dressed. On the Keeper’s side of the equation, there is a need to ensure
that the party’s excess wealth is siphoned off to some other purpose, apart
from guns, dynamite and bullets.
Here
then is a list of gentlemen’s apparel which will suit any Investigator with a
wardrobe to fill and some spare cash to flash. Since men’s fashions didn’t
change significantly from the Victorian era, this list will suit any character
from the Gaslight Era to the Classic Era of Call
of Cthulhu.
Prices
given are in pounds (£, or l.), shillings (s.) and pence (d.) and also in
American dollars; these figures are constant throughout the British
Commonwealth, although availability may cause the prices to inflate somewhat.
The American prices are calculated on a £1 to $5 ratio: this rate did fluctuate
somewhat between 1895 and 1925, but this is the best average value. Note also,
that Australian and British coins and promissory notes were at parity during
this period (although the British sovereigns which were manufactured in
Australia contained significantly more gold than the UK-made ones!).

Unfortunately,
one size doesn’t fit all and to look your best you need clobber that fits.
Fortunately, Call of Cthulhu
characters all come with their measurements included (sort of) so finding
appropriate clothing (and paying for it) is a snap. Just follow the guidelines
