Elder Sign Puzzle, No. 1

An Elder Sign is needed urgently to hold off the depredations of a particular Great Old One! (And not one of those wussy, Chaosium-approved, star-shaped Signs either, but one of the authentic HPL-designed branch-like ones!)

Answer the questions below and fill them in on the grid above to form the Elder Sign – words above the spine of the branch go from bottom to top; words below the spine go from left to right. The first letter of each correct answer is given as a clue. (Ignore things like apostrophes and hyphens - all you need are letters)

Once you’ve filled in the grid, the letters highlighted in orange can be re-combined to spell out the name of the Great Old One you’ve thwarted. Watch out though: the revenge of the Old Ones is far-reaching and deadly!
